Iowa Writers Library

The Iowa Writers’ Library, maintained by the Coralville Public Library, is a 1,000 square-foot treasure that houses approximately 800 books written by former students, graduates, and faculty of the nationally renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa. Over 100 authors are represented, including many books that are now out of print. Featured authors include Rita Dove, Jorie Graham, John Irving, Tracy Kidder, Philip Levine, James McPherson, Marilynne Robinson, Jane Smiley, and Wallace Stegner. The library also includes a special section highlighting Pulitzer Prize winning works of authors associated with the Workshop.

Located off the main lobby of the Hyatt Regency Coralville, the library welcomes visitors with comfortable furnishings, a fireplace, and windows overlooking the Iowa River Landing terrace and pond. Books are available for checkout by guests of the hotel, and browsing by visitors to the Iowa River Landing.

In 2013, a series of sculptures, inspired by works from the library, was installed at the Iowa River Landing.

Board of Trustees

The Coralville Public Library Board of Trustees meets monthly.

All meetings of the Board are open to the public. Non-Board members who wish to address the Board should request a place on the agenda not later than 24 hours before the time established for the meeting. The request may be directed to the President, the Secretary, or the Library Director.

Statement on Race and Social Justice

The Coralville Public Library Board of Trustees joins the Iowa Library Association in stating unequivocally that Black Lives Matter. Today and every day we stand together with our community to speak out against racism, to promote understanding, and to create a world that is smarter and kinder. The systemic racism that negatively impacts the lives of Black people is contradictory to all that libraries stand for as institutions committed to equal access to information, content, and services.
